Tile and slate roof installation

Roof installation and full re-roofs

New roofs installed, or the old covering stripped and re-covered in tile or slate, with new battens and a breathable membrane underneath.

Like-for-like replacement

Matching the existing tile or slate so the roof still looks right on the street.

Dry ridge and verge

Mechanically fixed ridge and verge systems instead of mortar, so they don't work loose over time.

New flashings

Lead or equivalent flashings renewed around chimneys, abutments and valleys while the roof is open.

Guttering while access is up

It's the sensible time to replace tired fascias, soffits and guttering. We'll price it as an option.

Skylight installation

New skylights and roof windows fitted and flashed in, while the roof is open for a re-roof or added to an existing roof.

Before you book a new roof

Straight answers, before anyone climbs a ladder.

How long does a new roof take?

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof and on the weather. Your written quote gives you a timescale as well as a price, and we'll keep you posted if the weather moves things.

Do I need scaffolding?

Most re-roofs do, for safety and to work properly. Where it's needed it's included in your quote, so there's no separate bill for it later.

Will you match my existing tiles?

Wherever we can. If the original tile is no longer made we'll show you the closest match before anything is ordered.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not for a like-for-like replacement. Listed buildings and conservation areas can be different. We'll flag it if we think it applies to you.

Planning a replacement roof

A replacement should deal with the whole roof, not just leave you with new tiles over old problems.

Repair or replace?

A leak alone does not mean the entire roof needs replacing. We inspect the covering and the details beneath it before recommending a repair or re-roof. Compare our roof repair service if the problem is isolated.

Agree the roof build-up

Ask what the quote includes: stripping, membrane, battens, tile or slate, ridge details and flashings. Where existing slate can be reused, that can form part of the discussion. Our Horsforth slate project shows new Spanish slate at the front and reused Welsh slate at the back.

Coordinate other roof work

If you are planning solar panels or roof windows, discuss them before the roof is covered. Confirm access, scaffolding and the proposed timescale in the written quote.
