Slate re-roofPhotograph: slate re-roof in horsforth

Project 004 · Slate re-roof · Horsforth · LS18 · January 2025

Horsforth
Slate re-roof.

The brief

The customer wanted new Spanish slate on the front of the house and the original Welsh slate kept for the back. So the back was stripped and re-laid in its own slate, and the front re-covered in new.

The work

In order, as the team photographed it on the day.

What this project shows

Real work, with the scope and photographs retained from the original project.

The roofing details

The front and back were specified differently: new Spanish slate at the front, and the original Welsh slate stripped and re-laid at the back. This project shows why the condition of existing slate should be discussed before assuming all of it needs replacing.

Photograph 02 shows slating around a rooflight, while 03 shows the dormer junction and 04 its new fascia. These are details within the documented Horsforth slate job. The dormer roofing guide helps distinguish work to the cheeks and junctions; the roofline guide separates board and gutter enquiries. A new fascia in this photograph is not evidence of a separate gutter-replacement project.
