Chimney Repairs in Leeds

Chimneys take the worst of the weather and they're usually the first thing on a roof to go. Left alone, a bit of failed pointing turns into damp in the bedroom. We'll tell you whether yours needs repointing, rebuilding or taking down.

What customers say

Reviews from real jobs · Read them all

“Well, what can I say, absolutely fantastic set of lads, especially Joe! They were actually doing work to next door and ended up removing 2 of our huge chimney stacks and re-roofing over the gap left. Joe and the lads did an amazing job and kept me informed along the way. Even went to the hassle of taking pictures and final video run through of the roof after the job had been done. So glad we've found these roofers as we won't use anyone else in the future. Trustworthy, friendly, great pricing and genuinely nice guys. Thank you so much lads!”

Questions about chimney work

Straight answers, before anyone climbs a ladder.

Why is damp showing on my chimney breast?

Often failed pointing, flaunching or flashing letting water into the stack. It usually shows up inside well away from where it's actually getting in.

Repoint or rebuild?

If the brickwork itself is sound, repointing is normally enough. If the bricks are spalling or the stack is leaning, a rebuild is the honest answer.

Can you cap off a chimney we don't use?

Yes, capped but ventilated, so it stays dry without trapping moisture inside.

Do you need scaffolding for chimney work?

Usually yes. It's included in the quote where it's needed.

Finding the cause of a chimney leak

Masonry, the top of the stack and the junction with the roof all need to be considered.

Pointing is not the only detail

Open mortar joints can admit rain, but so can cracked flaunching around the pots or failed lead at roof level. The visible damp patch does not identify the cause on its own. We look at the stack and its junction with the covering.

The leadwork close-ups on this page show flashing details at roof junctions. They illustrate that part of the work; they do not document a complete chimney rebuild.

Repair, rebuild or remove

The right approach depends on the condition of the bricks and whether the chimney is still used. Repointing sound masonry is different from rebuilding a damaged stack. Discuss use and ventilation before agreeing to cap or remove a chimney.

Before agreeing the work, ask which parts of the stack and roof junction are included: mortar joints, flaunching, pots or cowls, leadwork and the adjoining tiles. Access and making the roof good should be discussed too. A local flashing repair and taking down a redundant stack are different scopes; the photographs alone cannot decide which your chimney needs.

Work alongside the main roof

Chimney access may overlap with a re-roof. If you have a roof leak but are not sure the stack is responsible, start with our roof repair and inspection service rather than assuming a chimney rebuild is needed.

With your enquiry, include the postcode, whether the chimney is in use and when the damp appears. Send any photographs you can take safely from ground level; do not climb onto the roof to obtain them.

For a different leadwork detail, photograph 04 of the Adel warm-roof project shows the roof-to-wall junction. That is wall-abutment leadwork on the Adel roof, not a chimney-repair case study. It helps explain why the location of a flashing matters when describing a leak.
